5 key facts about this project
01
The use of charred wooden shingles enhances durability while creating a distinct aesthetic that reflects traditional Latvian techniques.
02
Cross-laminated timber panels are employed for structural efficiency, allowing for large open spaces with minimal support.
03
The bent A-frame design optimizes natural light penetration and energy efficiency throughout the year.
04

05
Community-focused spaces are designed to facilitate social interaction and cultural activities, enhancing the overall retreat experience.
The Ozolini architectural project represents a thoughtful integration of nature and culture in the serene setting of northeast Latvia. This project comprises several structures, including the Ozolini Tea Guest House, Brigita’s Daylight Teahouse, Anna’s Heritage Bathhouse, and Evita’s Twilight Cabin, each designed with specific functions in mind while fostering a holistic community experience.

At its core, the project emphasizes wellness and mindfulness, encouraging visitors to immerse themselves in the tranquil environment that surrounds the structures. The architecture creates spaces that promote reflection and connection, both among individuals and with the natural world. The use of local materials not only supports sustainability but also evokes a sense of belonging and identity, deeply rooted in the traditions of the region.

The Ozolini Tea Guest House serves as the central hub for social engagement and cultural practices. It facilitates communal activities, from tea ceremonies to workshops, embodying the spirit of togetherness. The design is flexible, allowing the interior to adapt to various activities while maintaining a seamless connection with the outdoors through sizable glass facades that invite natural light and offer scenic views.

Brigita’s Daylight Teahouse extends this concept, focusing on the joy of communal gatherings. The structure is intelligently arranged to allow for easy reconfiguration, thereby accommodating a variety of uses that enhance the visitor experience. Roof skylights intuitively deliver daylight throughout the day, bridging the indoor space with the outdoor resplendence and creating an atmosphere conducive to relaxation and social interaction.

Anna’s Heritage Bathhouse reflects traditional Latvian bathing customs, presenting an inviting sanctuary for rejuvenation. The dual configuration of bathing facilities allows simultaneous use for guests, fostering social intimacy while providing spaces for personal reflection. The choice of materials, predominantly wood and glass, is significant; they not only lend warmth and texture to the interiors but also allow users to engage with the rural landscape that envelops the bathhouse.

Evita’s Twilight Cabin introduces a more personal retreat within the overarching design narrative. This cabin promotes a minimalist aesthetic, lending focus to the experience of inhabiting a space that feels both intimate and expansive. The use of large glass panels establishes a dialogue between the inside and outside, urging occupants to appreciate the natural beauty surrounding them and inspiring solitude for introspection.

Throughout the project, the architectural approach is characterized by a strong emphasis on sustainability, harmony with nature, and cultural relevance. Each structure utilizes local timber, promotes eco-friendly practices, and respects the architectural language of the region. The careful selection of materials contributes to the overall longevity and resilience of the buildings while ensuring minimal environmental impact.

The Ozolini project showcases a multitude of design ideas and architectural innovations that reflect a commitment to creating spaces resonant with the environment. From the communal areas designed for social interaction to the private cabins intended for personal retreat, the project redefines how architecture can facilitate well-being and connectivity.
