The "Columbarium in the Forest" is an architectural project designed to serve as a place for remembrance and reflection. Located within a forested area, the design integrates three distinct structures that facilitate the memorialization of lost loved ones. The columbarium represents not only a physical shelter for the ashes of the departed but also a contemplative environment where visitors can connect emotionally with their memories and the surrounding natural landscape. The key elements of this project include a pavilion for gathering, a serene pond, and an intimate columbarium structure, each contributing to the overall experience of the site.

Unique Design Approaches

The architectural design of the columbarium distinguishes itself through its sensitive integration with the natural environment. The placement of the structures is intentional, encouraging a sequential exploration that influences user experience. The open pavilion is designed with wood, creating warmth and fostering a sense of welcome. In contrast, the columbarium structure utilizes concrete and glass to ensure durability while facilitating a connection to nature via natural light. Unique to this design is the reflective pond that not only serves as a visual focal point but also enhances the peaceful atmosphere by mirroring the surrounding trees and structures.

Spatial Configuration and Materiality

The project illustrates a thoughtful approach to spatial organization. Pathways guide visitors through the site, promoting moments of introspection and interaction with nature. Each structure’s material selection is critical, with concrete providing a solid foundation, glass allowing light penetration, and wood contributing tactile warmth. The use of these materials supports the emotional resonance of the site while ensuring functionality and longevity. The interplay of exposed structures and sheltered areas creates a dynamic environment tailored for remembrance.
