Casa Rosa is located in Oaxaca, Mexico, designed as a home that embraces local culture while focusing on practical living and environmental awareness. The goal is to create a space that welcomes community interaction and promotes gatherings among family and friends. By emphasizing the connection between indoor and outdoor areas, Casa Rosa provides an open and adaptable environment within a compact layout.

Design Integration

The concept integrates spaces inside and outside, allowing the house to extend into a nearby terrace. This design encourages movement between areas, fostering a sense of togetherness. Natural light filters in, and fresh air circulates freely, making the atmosphere comfortable throughout the seasons.

Cultural References

Distinct cultural elements weave through Casa Rosa, reflecting the heritage of Oaxaca. The stairs, inspired by pre-Hispanic designs, are built using a traditional clay-compression technique. These features add visual interest and showcase local craftsmanship, enhancing the relationship between the home and its historical roots.

Use of Local Materials

The choice of local materials greatly influences the character of Casa Rosa. The bright pink color stands out, connecting with the region’s traditions. Traditional brick lattices also play a role in the design, creating beautiful light patterns within the home. This interaction between light and shadow enriches the living experience, linking the interior to the exterior surroundings.

Sustainable Solutions

Sustainability is a key aspect of the design. A small water ecosystem alongside the terrace works as a collection and filtration system. This element demonstrates a thoughtful approach to environmental concerns and promotes responsible resource use. Additionally, solar panels installed on the roof harness sunlight, contributing to the building’s energy efficiency without affecting its visual appeal.

The inclusion of traditional decorative details alongside modern design ensures that the spaces are not only functional but also meaningful. Light plays a significant role, as it enters through the brick latticework, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere throughout the day, providing comfort and joy to its inhabitants.
