Jose Manuel Reyes

Please tell us about your company (when it was founded, where it is based, how many employees, etc) Alternatively, if you do not have a company, please give us some insights on your own professional/academia background.

Studio rrooo was founded in 2021 by José Manuel Reyes, a Dominican Architect and Designer based in Toronto, Canada. Inspired by the unconventional, Reyes loves to challenge established parameters when approaching a new project. He has an ease of trusting his instincts with little regard for the perception of trends, which manifests into creative designs that push boundaries. Still, intention and purpose remain at the core of his work to create bold, yet sophisticated designs.

Brief information about the projects that you/your company have been involved with. For instance, what scale have you focused on/preferred, any significant projects where the company/ individuals have been Involved?

Studio rrooo focuses on different design projects, ranging from retail design to experiential design. José’s passion, however, is furniture design. More specifically: chairs.

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

To me, architecture is the fusion of creativity and practicality. It’s about creating spaces that find that perfect balance between serving their purpose and evoking a deeper sentiment. In my society, they are applauded for their ability to shape the world around us, creating environments that resonate with beauty and meaning.

Why do you participate in architecture competitions?

It is a good way to challenge your creativity.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture competitions?

It’s a great way to push your creative boundaries and, in turn, learn more about yourself.
