Evgenii Varlygin and Anastasiia Soshnikova from Russian Federation

The architectural studio greensters group was founded in St. Petersburg in 2018 to bring sustainable design to Russia which is strongly 
influenced by fossil fuels. The partners and lead architects are Evgenii Varlygin and Anastasiia Soshnikova. Both received their bachelor of 
architecture in Saint Petersburg and then moved to Germany. Evgenii finished his master's at TU Munich and then started working at haascookzemmrich Studio2050 in Stuttgart. Anastasiia was at TU Berlin and then Behnisch Architekten, also in Stuttgart.

Brief information about the projects that you/your company have been involved with. For instance, what scale have you focused on/preferred, any significant projects where the company/ individuals have been involved?

The company is mostly involved in small-scale projects but with a large impact on society and the environment. The projects range from building to public space design.

The values of greensters group are:
 human – creating a comfortable and healthy environment for work, life, and rest; 

ecology – regenerative and resilient design, enhancing biodiversity, 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle), and 0 waste;
 economy – creative cost optimization, where green architecture does not mean costly, but rather profitable.

Why do you participate in architecture competitions?

Architecture competitions can help to develop new ways of thinking and compare your work with other professionals. They also provide useful insights for the creative presentation of your project.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture competitions?

There is always time to participate in a competition, so just start to do it little by little. In the end, if you do not win, it is still a good project for your portfolio and you can learn a lot.
