Vassil Vandov and Gergana Georgieva from Bulgaria
We are two architects living and working in Sofia. We have studied at the University of architecture in Sofia (UACEG). During our studies we have completed a student exchange in Bordeaux. After earning our master’s degree we both did internships in architecture studios in Porto. Studying and working abroad has enriched our vision about our role as architects.
At the moment we work in architecture studios in Sofia.
Gergana is interested in social and art projects. She has worked for architecture exhibitions in Bulgaria as well as for some urban renovation projects in her city.
Vassil has an interest in small and medium projects. On a larger scale, he likes to explore processes in the urban fabric and especially the relation between built and natural environment.
Architecture for us is a non-ending process of research, curiosity and self-development. It is a passion and a way to realize dreams and visions. This profession is always different and depends on one’s imagination. The role of an architect nowadays is crucial in rethinking our public and private space that has to change with the pace of the society itself. Our role needs to be more important as better urban and life solutions are to come.
Architecture competitions have a key role in the development of young architects. They stimulate creativity among individuals or teams regardless of their professional experience and background. One the one hand competitions offer fascinating and complex projects to work on. On the other, they allow more freedom in the design process than in real-life projects.
Participating in architecture competitions is a must if you are willing to become part of the international network of designers. It gives you a chance both to get inspired and to inspire others. Undoubtedly, it is the best way to gain experience and to get recognition for your work as a young professional.
