Daniel Alberto Caraveo Chavarria

Please tell us about your company (when it was founded, where it is based, how many employees, etc) Alternatively, if you do not have a company, please give us some insights on your own professional/academia background.

We are students at the Faculty of Architecture at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, currently in our final year. We have been working together for two years on internal faculty projects and competitions, and recently on some international competitions.

Brief information about the projects that you/your company have been involved with. For instance, what scale have you focused on/preferred, any significant projects where the company/ individuals have been Involved?

Together, we have focused on mid-scale projects, primarily at the academic and competition level. Some examples include a concert hall, an eco-hotel, a pavilion, and a multifamily housing building. The most recent project was an eco-chic hostel unit located in Holbox for an international competition.

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

For us, architecture is about creating spaces where people can not only live but also thrive. As architects in Mexico, a country where hiring an architect is a luxury, our interest lies in designing practical and accessible solutions to urban challenges, such as housing and public spaces. Our goal is to improve the quality of life for people, respect our culture, and promote sustainability.

Why do you participate in architecture competitions?

As students, we have found that competitions give us the opportunity to work on projects that we wouldn't encounter in the professional realm and to explore out-of-the-box solutions to common challenges. Competitions have been an excellent opportunity to share our ideas and see what other students and architects from around the world propose.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture competitions?

We believe that these competitions are an excellent exercise to demonstrate your knowledge and unleash your imagination, so anyone interested in architecture should give themselves a chance to participate.
