We’d like to take the opportunity to introduce you to one of our Honorable mention winner for our "Children’s Hospice" competition – Nina Miłosławska from Poland!
Nina Miłosławska from Poland
I am a student at Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, currently working on my master's thesis.
What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?
Architecture involves the deliberate creation of high-quality spaces with consideration for future users, while also respecting the existing context and natural environment. It is a task that demands commitment and responsibility from architects.
Why do you participate in architecture competitions?
I participate in architecture competitions because they provide an opportunity to embrace new design challenges. In order to address a given issue, participants are required to deepen their knowledge in various fields, even those that have been previously outside their scope of interest. In the case of the Children's Hospice architecture competition, I had to confront a subject that is often perceived as difficult and uncomfortable - dying and death. I believe that the information I gathered during the process will greatly influence my perception. It is also important to me that competitions offer a platform to unleash creativity without constraints. Furthermore, I can learn a great deal from how other participants have interpreted the subject and the solutions they have proposed.
What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture competitions?
I believe that participating in architecture competitions is a crucial aspect of personal growth as a designer. I encourage you to overcome any fear or hesitation, as regardless of the competition's outcome, you will emerge from it with valuable knowledge and experiences.
