Architecture Competition Architect's Sugar Architectural Visualization Award Honorable mention winner - Shimahara Visual

We’d like to take the opportunity to introduce you to one of our Honorable mention winner for our "Architect's Sugar Architectural Visualization Award" competition –  Igor Neminov from United States!

Igor Neminov from United States

Shimahara Visual was established in 1999 by Craig Shimahara and has locations in Los Angeles, New York and Boston. With over twenty years experience and forty full time creatives on the team coast to coast, the company’s pursuit of artistic and cinematic excellence and devotion to their clients is what enables the company to consistently deliver superlative architectural experiences through film, branding illustration, and virtual reality.

Brief information about the projects that you/your company have been involved with. For instance, what scale have you focused on/preferred, any significant projects where the company/ individuals have been involved?

Shimahara Visual works with large developers, architects, and brokers like Related Companies, Gensler, Morphosis, Brookfield and JLL on beautiful icons in the sky from around the world. Our approach is unique in that we bring the world of movie making and cinematography to our offerings that we call our Cinematic Advantage.

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

As a Visual Artist with professional training in Architecture, the practice of design meant I would have the opportunity to explore and integrate ideas about the poetry and the beauty of living, enhancing what's already there and adding something that would make it a place of interest and engagement. Being provocative and experimental is always a huge bonus.

Why do you participate in architecture competitions?

I find it a good reason to flex your mind creatively and see where you stand in relation to the collective order of things within the profession. The fixed deadline and topic forces you to operate in a way as you would with a client but with much greater freedom.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture competitions?

If you need a reason to express your self creatively and have the time for it. Why not? The fear of failure should not be a reason for not trying. You will be surprised at how much one can learn from the process itself. It really comes down to self-development.
