Thatching Roofs and Poet Huts Embracing Nature in a Retreat Setting

Project in-detail

04
The layout encourages exploration through fragmented pathways.
05
Sustainable materials enhance community engagement and environmental sensitivity.

The Alliteration Project is a thoughtfully designed space located in the village of Pavillosta. It emphasizes an integration with the natural landscape and focuses on creating both communal and private experiences. The project features a distinct arrangement of spaces tailored for social interaction and personal retreat, driven by a concept that explores the idea of alliteration. This design approach reflects the connections between creativity, community, and the environment.

Use Distribution

The project clearly separates its functional areas into extroverted and introverted spaces. Extroverted areas, which include host accommodations and shared facilities like dining rooms and kitchens, are placed along the road front. This location invites people in and encourages social gatherings. On the other hand, introverted spaces, such as poet huts and areas for meditation, are positioned at the forest edge. This arrangement offers users a retreat into nature, ideal for quiet reflection and inspiration.

Central Lake and Pathways

A central lake stands as the heart of the design, acting as both a focal point and a source of inspiration. It helps organize the layout and connects different areas of the project. The surrounding pathways are arranged in a way that suggests exploration and discovery. Their fragmented nature symbolizes the creative journey, inviting users to wander and engage with the surroundings while appreciating the views of the water.

Architectural Elements and Materiality

The Alliteration Project incorporates a variety of architectural components, including double bed huts, single bed huts, and four-person accommodations, alongside a terrace with a roof. Each feature supports different experiences, ranging from large gatherings to private moments. Traditional ecological materials, like thatching roofs, wood, and wool insulation, enhance the structures. These choices promote sustainability while respecting local building styles, grounding the design in its context.

Design Detail

Terraces overlooking the central lake offer beautiful views and create a strong connection between indoors and outdoors. They encourage occupants to engage with their surroundings. This aspect of the design reinforces the community feel while providing individual spaces for reflection, allowing users to experience the balance between shared life and personal time.
