The design addresses the pressing need for social housing in Paris, reflecting the recent urban policies linked to the upcoming 2020 Olympic Games. Located within the city center, the project emphasizes accessibility and aims to enhance the urban experience. By reimagining existing urban blocks, the design focuses on creating a cohesive living environment that encourages interactions among residents.

Site Selection and Context

The chosen site is aligned with identified priority zones for affordable housing. Its proximity to public transportation and important landmarks like Parc de la Villette makes it well-situated. The surroundings include low-quality buildings, often used for storage, providing an opportunity to revitalize these underutilized areas. The design seeks to infuse life into the block by introducing essential living spaces and communal areas that enhance the local urban fabric.

Flexible Housing Configurations

Flexibility is a central theme in the housing designs. Unit sizes range from compact 30 square meters to more spacious 90 square meter duplexes. This variety allows accommodation for different types of residents, from singles to couples. Each unit also has options for expansion, enabling customization according to individual preferences. This adaptability is designed to address the diverse needs of urban living, making the environment more functional and welcoming.

Community Engagement and Security

The layout enhances community engagement through thoughtfully placed pathways and multiple entrances. These features improve safety and make the space more accessible. By reducing isolated areas, the design fosters a sense of security among residents. Communal spaces, both semi-open and closed, encourage social interactions and help build connections within the neighborhood.

Sustainable Design Elements

Outdoor spaces are key to the overall design, promoting interaction with nature and providing opportunities for personal gardening. Each unit includes a small yard, which contributes to the environmental quality of the area while supporting sustainable living practices. The choice of prefabricated concrete as the main material of construction facilitates quick assembly on-site, ensuring safety and durability. This approach underscores the commitment to efficient and resilient urban housing.

The design focuses on integrating functional living spaces with an emphasis on community and flexibility. Each unit reflects attention to the needs of residents, creating an environment that balances personal space with opportunities for communal engagement. The overall concept highlights a well-thought-out response to the housing demands of Paris while revitalizing the urban landscape.
