Pathway Connection with Central Tree in a Flexible Wood Residence

Project in-detail

The design centers on the contemporary orthodox concept and is situated by a lake that influences its relationship with the environment. It serves families and artists, aiming to blend modern living with local traditions in a way that reflects the essence of Latvian architecture. Through thoughtful layout and design elements, it enhances connections among residents while respecting individual privacy.

Flexible Living Spaces

Flexibility defines the residential units, which accommodate families ranging from one to five members. Each private area can be configured to suit different needs, allowing for a versatile living experience. The north façade features expansive glass, providing clear views of the lake and inviting in natural light. Meanwhile, the south-facing windows ensure that each room benefits from warmth throughout the day.

Connection to Nature

The design incorporates a pathway leading to a terrace, linking the main building, studio, and lake. This pathway emphasizes the relationship to the natural surroundings, complemented by a central tree that serves both functional and visual purposes. These landscape features engage residents with the outdoors, enriching daily life and grounding the design within its local context.

Co-living Areas

Co-living spaces promote social interaction among residents. The living room, with its large windows, fosters a strong connection to the environment outside. This openness continues in the kitchen and dining areas, encouraging communal activities. The upper floor contains two adaptable private areas and a shared common space. Movable elements, such as wardrobes and panels, provide options for different configurations, accommodating the varied requirements of users.

Creative Studio Space

Designed for two artists, the studio reflects a focus on collaboration and creativity. It balances shared work areas with individual workspaces, enabling both teamwork and personal focus. Large windows in the studio frame views of the lake and surrounding greenery, creating an inspiring atmosphere. The entrance design bridges the gap between nature and built form, highlighted by a preserved tree that offers a tangible link to the natural world.
