The O.U.R.S project presents a unique approach to enhancing the urban experience of literature through a community-centered book sharing and reading space. Designed to resemble a large book, the structure fits into various urban settings, encouraging exploration and engagement among users. Its main purpose is to provide an accessible site for literature that builds a sense of community ownership and invites participation.

Design Concept
The concept focuses on making literature easily accessible, enhancing community experiences by offering a place for shared reading. The space is adaptable, allowing users to interact with books in a spontaneous manner, bringing them back to the pleasure of holding a physical book. By allowing personal book collections to become a shared community resource, the project promotes inclusivity and community dialogue around literature.

Spatial Configuration
O.U.R.S features a flexible layout that accommodates different user needs. It includes both tall and short storage options for the book collection, maximizing space and offering comfortable areas for reading or gathering. This arrangement encourages interaction among users, making the environment inviting for social activities and engagement.

Material Choices
Materials in the project are carefully selected, utilizing prefabricated waterproof wood panels for structural components such as the bookcase and the hinge-cabinet door. This choice ensures durability while allowing the elements to endure the outdoor environment. DuPont™ Tyvek® is also incorporated for the foldable wall, promoting ease of assembly and flexibility in the design.

Infrastructure Integration
In incorporating infrastructure, O.U.R.S includes bicycle stands to support visitors, highlighting sustainable transport options and improving accessibility for the community. Glazed windows enhance the connection between interior and exterior, inviting people to engage with the space as they pass by.

The roof’s design has an origami-like quality that creates an appealing visual rhythm. The structure interacts with sunlight, casting interesting shadows and bringing a dynamic character to the environment.
