Hemp-Curtained Pavilion Creating Community Spaces at a Music Festival

Project in-detail

Constructed with hemp curtains that provide flexibility and shelter, the pavilion serves as a communal space at the Sansusī music festival, designed to facilitate social interaction and relaxation between performances.
5 key facts about this project
01
Pavilion features adaptable hemp curtains for weather protection and ventilation.
02
Terraced areas accommodate diverse activities like yoga and children's programs.
03
Caterer's spaces are efficiently organized for seamless food service during events.
04
Designed to be entirely dismantleable and recyclable, minimizing environmental impact.
05
Lighting enhances ambiance, inviting social interaction during evening events.

The CAESURA food court design for the Sansusī music festival presents a practical solution for people attending the event. Positioned between different concert areas, the pavilion provides a space for relaxation and socializing. The design incorporates the idea of a caesura, which refers to a pause in music, allowing visitors to take a break from performances and connect with one another.

Design Concept
The pavilion is created as a lively space that encourages interaction among festival attendees. It includes separate areas for caterers, seating options, and a spacious terrace for public use. By defining the caterer’s spaces, which can accommodate up to three staff members, the layout ensures that services are efficient while maintaining a clear distinction between food preparation areas and zones for socializing.

Functional Layout
The terraced area for free use is a key element, designed to host a variety of activities such as yoga, meditation, and children's programs. This flexibility supports engagement among different age groups and encourages a vibrant atmosphere. In addition, the placement of seating areas, both inside the pavilion and on the terrace, promotes gathering and interaction among festival-goers.

Materiality and Environmental Integration
The pavilion features translucent materials that contribute to a light and open structure, allowing it to blend with its surroundings. A unique aspect of the design is the use of hemp curtains, which can be drawn to provide ventilation and a visual element to the space. When closed, these curtains create a comfortable environment, adapting to changing weather conditions and offering shelter for attendees.

Lighting and Ambiance
The lighting within the pavilion is intentionally designed to enhance the experience during evening events. It illuminates the structure, making it an attractive space for dining and social activities. The warm light creates an inviting setting for visitors, emphasizing the pavilion's role as a communal area where people can connect over shared experiences while enjoying the festival's offerings.
