Ernur Verpa is a conceptual observation tower situated in Iceland, designed to offer a vantage point overlooking tectonic features. The architecture integrates with the surrounding landscape, embodying both functionality and sustainability. The project's primary function is to facilitate visitor engagement with the geological phenomena of the area, providing an educational platform while emphasizing natural beauty.

The structure reaches a height of 13.5 meters and features a cantilevered observation deck that extends over cliffs, allowing for unobstructed views. The underside of the deck is supported by galvanized steel tapered tubular sections, which offer stability while aligning with contemporary aesthetic principles. The design incorporates a glass floor measuring 2 meters in diameter, enabling visitors to observe the geological layers beneath them.

The entry and lower levels of the tower include a café, reception area, and spaces for resting, which encourage community interaction. These elements enhance the experience for visitors and promote a connection with the landscape. The surrounding outdoor areas are designed to accommodate additional visitor amenities, further enriching the space.

Design a new small-scale home concept in the 10th edition of MICROHOME — 100,000 € prize + construction

Competition organisers

The 10th edition of the MICROHOME architecture competition invites architects and designers from around the world to explore the possibilities of compact, sustainable living. Hosted by Buildner in collaboration with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this special edition challenges participants to design an off-grid, modular microhome for a young professional couple, with a maximum floor area of 25 m². Designs should prioritize innovation, efficiency, and real-world feasibility. 

A total prize fund of 100,000 € will be awarded, including three main prizes, the Kingspan Award, and the Hapi Homes Award, which will grant 15,000 € and lead to the construction of the selected design.
