Mother of Malmö emphasizes community interaction and understanding within its urban setting. Located near the harbour basin in Malmö and adjacent to the historic Kockums shipyard, the design aims to transform the built environment into one that encourages social connections. The underlying concept seeks to replace feelings of isolation often found in city spaces with warmth and inclusivity.

Public Spaces

The design features an array of shared areas for social interaction and activities. Public gardens and small squares are thoughtfully placed to encourage informal meetings among residents, fostering a sense of belonging. A marketplace for local businesses enhances community ties and supports the local economy, illustrating the commitment to enriching the cultural landscape of the area.

Architectural Features

Key design elements include an arcade and a performance stage, which contribute to the liveliness of the public realm. The layout invites residents to engage with the harbour basin, encouraging outdoor activities that connect people to nature. This interaction between the structure and its surroundings enhances the accessibility and appeal of the communal spaces.

Residential Amenities

High-altitude gardens are incorporated within the residential units, providing views and a natural connection for residents. The project also features well-designed cycling facilities, such as above-ground garages that make it easy for users to access elevators. These features aim to lower barriers, particularly for families, and promote the use of bicycles as a sustainable mode of transport.

Mother of Malmö illustrates a balance between practical use and aesthetic appeal. The thoughtful landscaping and public areas enhance the living experience while grounding the development in its local context.
