The Gaudi La Coma Artists’ Residence Project, known as MEM-FAB, serves as a multifaceted space for reflection, creativity, and community. Located in a landscape rich with history, the project combines a memorial park, a healing retreat center, and various artistic workshop spaces. The design draws inspiration from Antoni Gaudi's mosaics, weaving together elements of memory and artistry. This creates an environment that encourages both contemplation and artistic expression.

Architectural Framework

The layout features several interconnected functional areas, all designed with accessibility in mind. Artificial lighting cables enhance the functionality of the site, providing necessary illumination throughout. A tunneling system enables easy movement between distinct modules, promoting smooth transitions between spaces. Bridges link different areas, fostering connections and interaction among users.

Artistic Spaces

Dedicated artistic spaces are central to the project, aimed at encouraging collaboration among artists and visitors. Four artist residences offer immersive experiences that support creative work. Workshops designed for artistic exploration invite active participation and nurture a sense of community. The environment promotes the development of new ideas while fostering a shared commitment to creativity.

Sustainability and Cultivation

Incorporating a cultivation area for fruits and vegetables is another key element. This area emphasizes sustainability by using seed farming methods and controlling artificial light, demonstrating a commitment to ecological responsibility. It not only provides nutritional benefits for the community but also inspires creativity among those who engage with the space.

Site Organization and Landscape Integration

The project is organized across two levels, with various functional components arranged for optimal use. The ground level includes planting beds, seed storage, art workshops, and hostel facilities, ensuring diverse offerings are easily accessible. The upper level features a crematorium and additional hostel space for visitors. The design of columns contributes to an elevated topography, adding to the visual language of the project while integrating with the surrounding landscape. The overall architectural expression reflects a balance of historical reference and contemporary design.
