Karen Piché and Olivier Lord took a step out from the offices where they work to join forces with Durand Courchesne. The firm was founded by Dany Durand Courchesne in 2017 in Montreal, Canada. We all know each other from architecture school and did multiple competitions together.
Brief information about the projects that you/your company have been involved with. For instance what scale have you focused on/preferred, any significant projects where company/ individuals have been involved?
Durand Courchesne focuses mainly on residential, commercial and small scale industrial buildings. The latest projects include a restaurant, a single-dwelling house and industrial offices.
What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?
Architecture, for us, is about trying to use a simple and timeless language to answer specific needs.
Why do you participate in architecture vision competitions?
Participating in vision competitions is a great opportunity to step out of our daily practices to reinvent our conceptual skills.
What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture vision competitions?
It is a great way to hone your conceptual skills through a clear design narrative without falling into the constraints of your regular practice.
