Take a seat and make a statement!
We’d like to take the opportunity to introduce you to one of our Honorable mention winners for our "Timber Pavilion" competition – Vilhelm Tham, Felix Olofsson, Svante Hallgren and Adam Rydén from Sweden!
Honorable mention winners from Lund University
We are three second year students and one third year student studying at The School of Architecture at Lund University.
Exclusively school projects.
We are still studying and are in constant search for what architecture is and what it means. After discussing these questions in the group we have somewhat agreed on some common definitions.
For us architecture is ultimately a human expression in the form of built structure. Every person that creates and reacts to architecture is contributing to the field. Architecture is a language whose importance lies in both the author and the reader of the work. The role of the architect is to use this language responsibly. Responsibility in architecture is according to us, describing the human experience while being considerate of our planet's resources and other inhabitants.
This is our first architecture competition, and we wanted to participate in order to gain experience with this medium. We believe that architecture competitions are a great entry port to the real world of architecture. Open competitions have an important democratic function in helping young architects to show their work.
From the perspective of being a group of students, time management has been an important factor. Simultaniously doing projects in school and doing a competition can be challenging, so make sure that you plan and divide work well as a group. Also do not forget to be experimental and have fun, you have nothing to lose by participating.
