We are a small studio of designers in Nashville, Tennessee. We started in 2020 and have focused locally on custom houses and small commercial work—including a bar, fitness studio, and hair salon.
What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?
To us, good architecture means using common, modest materials and methods in thoughtful and unexpected ways. Designs that are affordable, constructable, down-to-earth, but feature moments of strong aesthetic scrutiny. An important role of an architect is to synthesize different perspectives— developer and environmentalist, realist and artist, codes and imagination, familiar and one-of-a-kind. Practicing architecture may be more of a balancing act than a stacking contest.
Why do you participate in architecture competitions?
We enter competitions to explore spatial ideas more freely. To speak up and ask questions. We have found the process eye-opening and encourage all those curious about space, shelter, enclosure to do the same.
