We’d like to take the opportunity to introduce you to the winners of the Honorable mention of our “Pavilosta Poet Huts ” competition - Grégoire Hubert, Eloïse Rudolph and Agathe Sautet from France!
Grégoire Hubert, Eloïse Rudolph and Agathe Sautet from France
We are three architects from France, who studied together at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture in Strasbourg (France) and at the Technical University Dresden (Germany). We have been working for over a year in different architecture offices, two of us in Berlin, Germany and one in Lausanne, Switzerland. We started our own working and sharing group ‘figures vives’ together with 10 other French architects in February 2018.
We are an association of thirteen individuals tending towards a common goal. Figures vives becomes an experiential platform. If relative disparity makes the group heterogeneous, it also has a unique purpose: to create a coherent whole, the result of the association of individual fragments that are sensitive, analytical and projectual.
Even if we all have a full time job, we try to make the most of our spare time, and get together for some workshops and debates about architecture and meet to work on some competitions, whether at an architectural, urban or design scale. Right now our focus is on a publication around the theme “the feeling of being home”. We think that sharing our questions with others and trying to have people with different backgrounds involved in architecture, could make the research and debates even more interesting for the future.
What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?
Architecture is a way to understand a society in its different scales and layers. Interiors, installations, buildings and cities are linked to the inhabitants and to the users in a very tight relationship. Improving one will improve the other and the role of an architect is to understand the needs of one society and to offer the most appropriate solution. Every context has its own issues that are the base of our reflections and interests.
Why do you participate in architecture vision competitions?
We participate in different architecture vision competitions to continue to work on and improve our skills while sometimes doing less conceptual work at our daytime jobs. We probably want to be challenged a bit and feel the adrenaline of a short-term project. Moreover, vision competitions allow us to imagine a poetic vision for a project and gives us the opportunity to develop more theoretical ideas, which is mostly neglected in traditional competitions.
What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture vision competitions?
If you have some doubts about participating in a competition, you should gather some friends and work together. Sharing ideas, comparing points of view and merging visions is the best way to have more interesting results and have fun while working.
