Architecture Competition Painters' Lake House Honorable mention winners - Daeho Lee, Beomki Lee and Jaeyual Lee

We’d like to take the opportunity to introduce you to one of our Honorable mention winners for our "Painters' Lake House" competition –  Daeho Lee, Beomki Lee and Jaeyual Lee from United States!

Honorable mention from United States

LMTLS is a New York based architectural design group whose three co-founders, Daeho Lee, Beomki Lee, and Jaeyual Lee. LMTLS stands for Limitless and seeks to find solutions through creative design thinking that surpasses the potential limitations and constraints of each project with the goal of establishing design manifestation. LMTLS is an architectural firm that engages in a comprehensive design process, which involves in-depth research into the historical and contextual elements of each project site.

LMTLS refers to a design studio that is dedicated to exploring the interplay between the past, present, and future. This studio does not just focus on breadth of scope, but also the limitless nature of time. Instead of following trends, focusing solely on futuristic technology, or replicating traditional architecture, we strive to create a unique and innovative architectural language that brings together elements from all three time periods. This is achieved through a continuous exploration process that reinterprets these values and develops mutually beneficial relationships between them.

Brief information about the projects that you/your company have been involved with. For instance, what scale have you focused on/preferred, any significant projects where the company/individuals have been involved?

We consistently embrace diverse design challenges, encompassing everything from petite pavilions to retail, residential, cultural programs, and masterplan, never shying away from scaling up and down.

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

The role of an architect is not limited to designing and constructing buildings. It involves a comprehensive approach to shaping human experience through the integration of form and function. Architects must constantly assess a diverse array of needs and challenges, each of which is unique to the individual, in order to achieve architectural excellence. They act as philosophers, carefully balancing various elements to create a unified vision. At LMTLS, we recognize that architecture is a representation of the collective intelligence and societal perspectives of each era. By combining the hidden narratives and possibilities of the past and present, we aim to create spaces that not only look good, but also embody the spirit of the times and connect a region's history, present, and future. In short, we believe that architecture should possess not just aesthetic appeal but also social values.

Why do you participate in architecture competitions?

The competition presents us with a rare opportunity to broaden our design philosophy through the investigation of innovative architectural ideas and the resolution of new and diverse design challenges. At LMTLS, we view this competition as a platform for experimentation and a means to continually refine and evolve our design philosophy and approach.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture competitions?

Confronting challenges should not be met with reluctance. The journey of overcoming obstacles often provides richer experiences and newfound insights than the ultimate outcome. By fully immersing ourselves in the challenge, we reap the rewards of personal development and satisfaction.
