Architecture competition Pape Bird Observation Tower Honorable mention - Christian Schunke and Anna Bugoslavska

We’d like to take the opportunity to introduce you to the winners of the Honorable mention of our “Pape Bird Observation Tower” competition - Christian Schunke and Anna Bugoslavska from Germany!

Christian Schunke and Anna Bugoslavska from Germany

We both studied architecture at the University of Applied Sciences in Leipzig and right afterwards started working in a medium-sized architecture office in Halle, where we are employed to this day. Christian has worked there for seven years - last year he became a licensed architect. Anna became part of the company five years ago. Soon we became the go-to team if there was an architecture competition the company took part in.

Brief information about the projects that you/your company have been involved with. For instance what scale have you focused on/preferred, any significant projects where company/ individuals have been involved?

The company we both are employed at works on a great variety of projects - from small interior makeovers to residential houses and apartment buildings. Our field of work expands from drafting and designs to execution planning and sometimes even construction management. Frequently we take part in competitions for residential housing and sometimes even public buildings. The last project we won for the company was a small residential project on an UNESCO heritage site in the city of Quedlinburg. Besides our office work we sometimes take part in interesting competitions in our leisure time.

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

Architecture is our passion and our profession. Creating spaces for people is one of the most privileged jobs out there. You can actively shape the society’s environment.

Why do you participate in architecture vision competitions?

While working at an office you are limited in your design decisions by all sorts of factors. Competitions allow you to work freely.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture vision competitions?

Experience can do no harm. You can test yourself. Learn to optimize your work process, skills and time management while letting your creativity free reign.
