Please tell us about your company (when it was founded, where it is based, how many employees, etc) Alternatively, if you do not have a company, please give us some insights on your own professional/academia background.
M9 Design Studio was founded in 2016 and is based in Bangalore, India. With a small, dedicated team of talented architects and designers, we focus on creating innovative, functional, and sustainable spaces that blend contemporary design with local context.
Brief information about the projects that you/your company have been involved with. For instance, what scale have you focused on/preferred, any significant projects where the company/ individuals have been Involved?
Our portfolio spans diverse scales, from boutique interiors to large-scale commercial projects. Notable works include the Dr. Vishnuvardhan Memorial complex, Naru Noodle Bar - a modern ramen restaurant, and bespoke architectural designs for educational campuses. We also specialize in luxury residences, farmhouses, and event spaces, combining creativity with functionality.
What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?
Architecture, to us, is the art of shaping environments that foster human connection and well-being. It balances aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability, addressing cultural and societal needs through thoughtful design. Architects serve as visionaries and problem solvers who contribute to a community’s identity and progress.
Why do you participate in architecture competitions?
Competitions provide a platform to push creative boundaries, explore experimental ideas, and engage in global conversations about design. They challenge us to innovate, refine our craft, and stay inspired.
What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture competitions?
If you’re undecided about participating in competitions, see them as opportunities for growth and self-discovery. They encourage creative thinking and provide valuable experience, even if you don’t win. The process is as rewarding as the outcome.
