Architecture Competition Melbourne Affordable Housing Challenge Honorable mention – Lap Zhen Wong and Erik Ung Hieng Yek

Lap Zhen Wong and Erik Ung Hieng Yek from Malaysia

Our start-up philosophy is to create architectures that are not limited by personal preferences, style, and attitude, but seeking for different formulas to set our architecture atmosphere and design intention. We strongly believe that the idea behind architecture requires profound thinking and constant questioning of the objective and intention at every step of design.

Brief information about the projects that you/your company have been involved with. For instance, what scale have you focused on/preferred, any significant projects where the company/ individuals have been involved?

Both of us are working at different architectural practices, focusing mostly on residential-commercial mix development and private houses. We combine our specialties in hopes of creating an atypical architectonic. Basically, we do not have any preferred projects because we like to challenge ourselves beyond our content.

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

Architecture is everything. Architectural designers hold the key to a better transformation of human space in the modern world where liberty is emphasized, eliminating the image of a confined universal system.

Why do you participate in architecture competitions?

Our main reason of participation is that it offers a thinking breakthrough for the way we perceive day-to-day architecture. Another reason is to also convey our design intention and content through an open architecture medium.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture competitions?

Architecture competitions are one of many ways to elaborate our artistic mind and exercise ourselves to probe for the possibility of “What If” within the realm of the almost impossible.
