We’d like to take the opportunity to introduce you to the Buildner Sustainability Award winner of our "Las Vegas Affordable Housing Challenge" competition – Wenlog Lu from Germany!

Wenlog Lu from Germany

I graduated as an architect from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in 2019.

When I was a student, I took part in a competition "Space pioneers - living in the small spaces" organized by the city of Ludwigsburg with the Ludwigsburg Museum. This sparked my interest in designing affordable, sustainable and innovative housing. By participating the competition, I learned that the most important thing for architects is not just what you can learn theoretically at universities, but the practical implementation of ideas from design to finished project. Today I work as an architect in the architectural office Weindel Architekten Partnerschaftsgesellschaft m.b.B. in Waldbronn near Karlsruhe.

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

For me, architecture means having fun designing, positively changing and further developing my environment.

Why do you participate in architecture competitions?

I'm taking part in architecture competitions because I enjoy developing new ideas and turning them into designs.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture competitions?

The competition allows you to think out of the box, think creative, design possibly impossible things. Cause it´s a playground to develop new ideas.
