Honorable mention winners from Indonesia
We are final-year Architecture students at Universitas Indonesia. This major necessitates a learning process that promotes critical thinking, scientific writing, and comprehension of various design and urban planning concepts that will be useful in society. As this is our final year as students, we want to push ourselves even further by participating in an international architecture competition, which we believe will provide us with unique and meaningful lessons.
Our university encouraged us to do various projects on various scales and topics as students to challenge our creativity. From low-rise to mid-rise buildings. We took various approaches in every project in order to prepare ourselves to be versatile architecture graduates. Aside from that, we've been participating in architecture competitions both nationally and internationally, thanks to the support of our university. We chose various competition topics in order to improve our skills and knowledge of architecture. In terms of project selection, we never limit ourselves.
We see architecture as a medium between humans and space, with endless possibilities, through which people could experience different emotions and perform various functions. Architecture occupies our daily life by transforming empty space into a form of physical space through design with a certain purpose. Architecture is also closely intertwined with the environment, for it plays a significant role in maintaining the sustainability of the environment. Hence, we believe that architecture could mean a lot of things, but in its hearts, architecture is a human experience that is realized materially and must always consider the impact on the surrounding environment.
We decided to participate in architecture competitions because it allows us to think creatively without any constraints, especially when we are faced with projects that might be out of our comfort zone. Therefore, we can have fun while also challenging ourselves to enhance our potential. Through joining competitions, we also hope to contribute to society by developing potential solutions to existing problems.
For us, architecture competitions have always been an exciting opportunity, particularly as a student. It enables us to gain more experience, work on more projects, sharpen our minds and skills, and have fun with a fantastic team. While working on an architecture competition project, we had the chance to exchange different ideas in the hope to find the best solution for the issue we were solving, and that helps us to grow further individually. The difficulty becomes a challenge that triggers us to think even deeper to find the best solution. So, despite the difficulties, architecture competitions give us opportunities to learn valuable lessons.
