We’d like to take the opportunity to introduce you to the 3rd prize winner of our "Las Vegas Affordable Housing Challenge" competition – Daniele Borin architetto from Italy!

Daniele Borin from Italy

I have an associated studio about architecture and set design with my partner, Mattia Vittori architect, since 2001. We are based in Milan, Italy, but we had worked all around the world with different projects, most of them about housing and event set design.

Our skills are various and we are able to work on architecture on different scale, product design, graphic design and set design, with always the same approach: a sartorial method to the project to reach always the best design solution specifically for the client. Peculiarity of our method are a massive research about space diagrams, handle the light like an essential design element and a knowledge about traditional and innovative construction materials used like expressive elements.

Brief information about the projects that you/your company have been involved with. For instance, what scale have you focused on/preferred, any significant projects where the company/ individuals have been involved?

I worked on this like a personal project

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

Architecture is the skilful, rigorous and magnificent play of volumes assembled in the light. (Le Corbusier). The architect is very often the subject in the middle of various players: client, lenders, municipality, friends, opponents, builders, craftmen, technicians, etc. A good design is possible when you find the way to profit from everyone to find solution that each single cannot see.

Why do you participate in architecture competitions?

Competition is the moment to be involved in different themes and scale, sometimes to do pure research with less constraints of real world, sometimes to confront with projects about your professional interests to indagate new solutions.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture competitions?

Keep your thinking up
