NORELL/RODHE from Sweden

Norell/Rodhe is a Stockholm based architecture studio founded in 2012 by Daniel Norell and Einar Rodhe.

Brief information about the projects that you/your company have been involved with. For instance, what scale have you focused on/preferred, any significant projects where the company/individuals have been involved?

The work of Norell/Rodhe ranges from competition winning schemes for cultural buildings and landscapes to interiors and installations. Recently completed projects include private residences, as well as conversion of a historical navy building for the Royal Institute of Art on the island of Skeppsholmen in Stockholm.

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

One of architecture’s roles is to express the relationship between the individual and society at large. The recent pandemic has increased the need for such affinity and sense of belonging.

Why do you participate in architecture vision competitions?

Participation in competitions, as well as in exhibitions and publications, for us has become a way to develop our practice and be in dialogue with others.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture vision competitions?

It may sound slightly boring, but: Choose competition – site, type of project, programme, etc. – in relation to your resources and previous experience.
