David Erik Bernatek and Adam Repaský from Czech Republic
We are close friends who attend the same university, classes and we live in the same flat too. Thanks to that we happen to know and understand each other pretty well – not only in terms of architecture but also on a personal level. We see it as a big advantage, that we know each other's visions and what our design process looks like!
What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?
The role of an architect in today‘s society is bigger than most people realize. As an architect, one does automatically take on a big responsibility. Architecture is not only about designing, but also about contribution to the solutions of problems, such as social and environmental issues. It is our goal to identify and create a strong concept for each of our projects. That is something that is anchored in our way of thinking.
Why do you participate in architecture vision competitions?
It allows us to experiment and try out new concepts and ideas. This type of competition gives us creative freedom – not being limited by loads of rules. We aim for new designs that are “out of the box“, in order to push current limits and boundaries of architecture.
What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture vision competitions?
Don’t think about “yes or no“, jump into it and enjoy!
