We’d like to take the opportunity to introduce you to the 2nd prize winner of our “Iceland Thermal Springs Guest House” competition - Nuttapol Techopitch of Looklen Architects in Thailand!
Looklen Architects from Thailand
Looklen Architects was founded in 2017. It is a Bangkok-based international practice that concerns itself with matters of architectural design, concept development and strategic spatial transformations. We are a group of seven inspired young architects led by Nuttapol Techopitch.
As a young and emerging team, we are working simultaneously between built projects and competitions as the two aspects of our work are each other’s mirror, creating unexpected parallels between practical work and conceptual imaginations.
We aspire to contribute, through means of design, to social and urban transformation.
Brief information about the projects that you/your company have been involved with. For instance what scale have you focused on/preferred, any significant projects where company/ individuals have been involved?
Looklen Architects has been involved with many projects, such as, private residences, office complexes, condominiums, gyms, retail stores, fine dining restaurants and installation art. The scale of projects range from 15-15,000 sq.m. Looklen Architects is open to applying new materials. We love to experiment with new practices, and still present cutting-edge design.
What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?
Architecture is a combination of art and science. It represents ideas, culture, and technology that will be passed on and developed through generations. The role of an architect in our society is to transform an owner’s conceptual thought to a physical structure.
Why do you participate in architecture vision competitions?
I want to challenge myself because competitions allow one to think out of the box and to increase one’s potential. I also believe that the competition will bring the opportunity to grow ideas and develop human resources and skills. Competitions encourage a dynamic working environment as the working team will do brainstorming to come up with the best design.
What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture vision competitions?
You won’t learn if you stay in your comfort zone. I believe that you can learn many things and you will be surprised by what you are capable of.
