Jesse Ewart from Australia

I’m an architectural graduate based in Melbourne, Australia, graduated from the VUW School of Architecture with an exchange at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. I am currently working for an award-winning architectural studio Rob Kennon Architects. The practice focuses on a range of residential projects with high attention to detail and design awareness.

Brief information about the projects that you/your company have been involved with. For instance, what scale have you focused on/preferred, any significant projects where the company/ individuals have been involved?

I've worked on a diverse range of projects across different mediums and scales: commercial, multi-residential, urban master planning, and residential additions. These experiences and varied expertise add to knowledge and future outputs along the voyage.

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

Architecture is a silent facilitator for our social and spatial essentials, guided by the design fundamentals of aesthetics, proportions, and practicality. We are also responsible for the design awareness of sustainability and our impact within the construction industry.

Why do you participate in architecture competitions?

Architecture competitions form an anonymous platform for designers to think beyond their current situation. Apart from the constraints of the brief – competitions allow you to explore alternative design processes, contexts, and typologies.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture competitions?
