Brief information about the projects that you/your company have been involved with. For instance what scale have you focused on/preferred, any significant projects where company/ individuals have been involved?

We in the Philadelphia office of Cuhaci & Peterson focus mainly on convenience and grocery stores.

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

Architecture is a full body interactive experience that both draws individuals in and engages them with their environment. From our homes, to our work environment, school, parks, and so much more, everyone interacts with architecture in some form or other. This experience can usually be altered or shaped with simply shifting around in the space, adding a new element, or having someone else to interact with. As a whole, architecture is always changing and always adapting, offering a steady, and yet, alternating environment based upon a single person or a whole in the society.

Why do you participate in architecture vision competitions?

The majority of our firm’s work is production-oriented with little design input. We decided to do design competitions to allow the creative juices to flow and expose ourselves to a project that we would not find within our client base.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture vision competitions?

Definitely participate. Just the process of working on the project allows for interesting challenges and exposes talents which may or may not be readily apparent.
