What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

The etymology of the word “architect” comes from “arkhi”, which means chief, and “tekton”, referring to builder, carpenter, woodworker, etc. In our mind, nowadays, the role of architects is far beyond designing beautiful buildings; it is to construct the public’s cultural identity with their cities. With the background of globalization, cultural identity is particularly important. Designing homes for people and arousing the deepest emotions hidden in blood is essential for architects.

Why do you participate in architecture competitions?

Actively participating in competitions helps to broaden the mind and understand architecture from different perspectives. As students, it is particularly important because we easily stick to thinking in one way which is taught at school.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture competitions?

Participating in architecture competitions is a good opportunity to practice and accumulate experience. It also helps to adopt good time management habits.
