The Memorial for Witches is located in Indonesia and serves to honor past injustices while supporting democratic expression. It is positioned near the Parliament Building, creating a direct link between public sentiments and government presence. The design emphasizes accessibility and visibility, allowing community members to engage with both the memorial and the broader political context.

Site and Layout

The memorial features a circular design that encourages inclusivity and interaction. This shape promotes easy movement for visitors and creates an inviting atmosphere. Within this space, seating areas are arranged to face the Parliament, enabling people to witness activities and participate in public discussions. Elevated and sunken seating enhances visibility and fosters closer connections among visitors during gatherings.

Multimedia Integration

Multimedia components are an essential part of the memorial’s design. Large screens on either side display real-time thoughts and aspirations shared by visitors, making the memorial an active setting. Long touchscreen boards offer a way for individuals to contribute their ideas, promoting community involvement. This integration ensures the space is not just a place for reflection, but also a forum for dialogue.

Supporting Facilities

The design includes various facilities that enhance the visitor experience. Monitoring systems allow activities to be broadcast live, ensuring that speeches can be heard throughout the area. Speakers are strategically placed to transmit audio clearly, creating an engaging environment. Features like water sprays help keep visitors cool on warmer days, promoting comfort and encouraging engagement with the space.

Landscape and Reflection

Surrounding the memorial are gardens and galleries that provide peaceful areas for contemplation. The combination of natural elements with the built structure enriches the site’s significance, making it a space where visitors can pause and reflect. These gardens serve as quiet retreats, adding to the memorial's role as both a tribute to the past and a venue for ongoing discussion and civic involvement.

The central podium stands as a symbol, representing the voices of those silenced by history. It invites visitors to engage with their collective narrative and encourages active participation in shaping the future.
