We’d like to take the opportunity to introduce you to the winners of the Honorable mention of our “Adelaide Creative Community Hub” competition - Adam Brown, Kirsty Hewitt and Kirsty Butler from Australia!
Kirsty Hewitt and Adam Brown from Australia
Khab Architects is an Adelaide based architecture practice enthusiastic about the work we do. We are Kirsty Hewitt and Adam Brown, who together run the practice and work on a range of type and scale of projects, from residential to commercial and institutional. We employ 2 staff and operate out of a dynamic studio environment shared with other architects whom we collaborate with when relevant for projects. Our architecture values client individuality, environmental responsibility, material qualities and spatial beauty. We place high value on developing strong working relationships on every project between client, architect and builder.
Khab Architects have received awards for their residential work that remains at the core of the practice, while also growing into a range of other projects including schools, offices, and even a veterinary practice.
What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of the architect in your society?
Where to begin…. It’s big! It’s super-liminal! Architecture shapes our lives both literally and metaphorically. Architecture is multi-dimensional, it is full of challenge and potential and balances the hemispheres or the practical/rational with the poetic/abstract/creative. The role of the architect in our society is shrinking in some, but expanding others. The unique, deep, creative, spatial, abstract, and organizational thinking of a successful architect is always looking for new horizons.
Why do you participate in architecture vision competitions?
To participate. To exercise our creativity. To explore our creative identity in a space that is free of the constraints that we usually have to contend with.
What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture vision competitions?
Architecture competitions are a valuable form of professional development.
