Buildner is proud to unveil the results of the Troll’s Tongue Observation Platform competition, an international architecture ideas challenge that invited architects, designers, and visionaries worldwide to reimagine the visitor experience at Norway's iconic Trolltunga cliff. Participants were tasked with designing a 3x6 meter platform that would offer breathtaking views over Lake Ringedalsvatnet while seamlessly integrating with the dramatic natural landscape. The competition emphasized sustainability, innovation, and minimal environmental impact, encouraging creative approaches to materiality, construction techniques, and structural ingenuity.
After careful evaluation by an esteemed international jury, Buildner is delighted to announce the winning designs that best captured the spirit of the challenge. The 1st Prize, Student Award, and Sustainability Award were awarded to Matteo Marion from Italy for "Suspended Cave," a platform that harmonizes with its rugged surroundings, offering an immersive experience through its suspended design while preserving the site’s visual integrity.
The 2nd Prize was secured by Roxana-Andreea Irimia, Mihai Bogdan Ionită, and Ștefan Popa from Romania for "Horizn: Beyond the Edge," a cantilevered observation platform featuring modular construction, prefabricated elements, and an elegant curved walkway that enhances the dynamic connection with the environment. The 3rd Prize went to Andreas Thaler and Jakob Fuchs from Austria for "The Troll's Catcher," a minimal-intervention platform anchored with tension ropes and featuring a suspended safety net, offering visitors a thrilling, contemplative space that emphasizes harmony with nature.
Buildner extends its heartfelt gratitude to all participants for their inspiring contributions and to the distinguished jury for their thoughtful evaluations. Congratulations to the winners for their outstanding designs that exemplify architectural innovation, environmental sensitivity, and a profound respect for Norway's rugged beauty.
