Rome Rain Rooms invites architects and designers worldwide to imagine small, reversible pavilions that transform rainfall into a civic experience. Set against the backdrop of Rome’s historic urban fabric, the competition calls for inventive structures that capture and store at least five cubic meters of rainwater per storm — using it to support nearby trees, gardens, or fountains. The aim is to combine environmental logic with sensory delight, creating spaces where people gather, listen, and rediscover their connection to the elements.
This international ideas competition offers a total prize fund of €10,000, with winning proposals receiving global exposure through Buildner’s digital channels, publications, and partner networks. Projects will be evaluated for their narrative clarity, water performance, environmental sensitivity, and ability to turn the experience of rain into an architectural event.
The final registration deadline is May 28, 2026, and competition winners will be announced on September 15, 2026. Rome Rain Rooms challenges designers to rethink how architecture can help cities adapt to a changing climate — transforming every storm into a public celebration of resilience and renewal.
