Architecture competition Amber Road Trekking Cabin Honorable mention - Florida Atlantic University

We’d like to take the opportunity to introduce you to the winner of the Honorable mention of our “Amber Road Trekking Cabin” competition - Alessandro Pupillo from United States!

Alessandro Pupillo from United States

I’m originally from a small town near Milan, Italy. Thanks to my parents I had the opportunity to visit almost every country in Europe as a child and eventually, at the age of 18, I moved to Toronto, Canada where I graduated high school in 2013. After that I moved again, this time to Florida, USA where I started studying architecture at Florida Atlantic University. I am, now in my 4th year, looking forward to graduating and seeing where life will take me next.

In the past few years I’ve had the opportunity to exercise my design abilities with mainly small-scale installations and furniture. I’ve collaborated extensively with the Young Artist Initiative, an organization which aims to empower emerging artists through curated experiential exhibitions in Miami, FL. I’ve also participated in several national (USA) and international architecture competitions receiving an honorable mention for the M-S-XS House competition organized by the Coalition of Community College Architecture Programs in 2015, and winning the ArchiCAD Student Design Competition organized by Graphisoft North America and AIA West Jersey in 2016.

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

Architecture is everything and nothing. A discipline that gives man the power to promote or destroy life. As a consequence of this definition, architects should be creators and solution-providers navigating through a world of endless possibilities.

Why do you participate in architecture vision competitions?

I participate in architecture vision competitions to gain a broader awareness and exposure that goes beyond the physical realm I’m naturally bound to.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture vision competitions?

It’s always a good investment whether it goes well or not. If it doesn’t, you’ll have the opportunity to learn from the winning designs. Failure is a great teacher.
