Buildner is pleased to announce the results of The Architect’s Stair #3 competition, an international ideas competition that invited participants to reimagine the stair as a powerful medium of architectural expression. Moving beyond its traditional functional role, competitors explored the stair as a vehicle for storytelling, public interaction, environmental responsiveness, material innovation, and spatial experience. The competition attracted a diverse range of creative proposals that demonstrated how even one of architecture’s most familiar elements can inspire bold and unexpected design thinking.
The First Prize was awarded to Zuhtu Usta (Turkey) for “A.Q.U.A.lizer: The Abacus Stairs,” a dynamic waterfront stair system that adapts to changing water levels. Second Prize went to Haoran Yuan (United States) for “A stair, a spiral, or a park,” an inhabitable landscape that merges circulation and public space through spiral geometries. Third Prize was awarded to Ralf Klaus Petersen (Germany) for “(St)Aircase – From Scrap to Step,” a lightweight stair constructed from reclaimed industrial steel.
