Buildner is excited to announce the winners of the Sansusī Sound Sculpture competition, held in collaboration with the Sansusī Music Festival in Latvia. This innovative competition sought designs for a wooden stage that could also function as a musical instrument, embodying the festival’s unique blend of nature, music, and improvisation. Architects and designers from around the world were invited to explore how sound and structure could harmonize, creating spaces that not only host performances but enrich the acoustic and cultural atmosphere of the festival.
The competition drew impressive entries, reviewed by an esteemed jury of architects, musicians, and cultural leaders. The first-place and Sustainability Award winner is Lucia Mariotto from Argentina, whose project "The Xylon Phone" presents an immersive experience inspired by ancestral rituals. Two polygonal stages, resembling lanterns, are connected by a sound bridge—a giant xylophone—inviting both performers and the audience to engage in a shared, interactive experience. The design combines light, sound, and space in a way that aligns perfectly with the festival's ethos.
Second and third prizes were awarded to Roxana-Andreea Irimia and Mihai Bogdan Ionita from Romania for "Vellum" and Pei Gui and Yuting Mu from Switzerland for "Symphony in the Forest." Both designs offered innovative approaches to integrating performance, audience interaction, and sustainability. Buildner extends its congratulations to all participants, whose creativity and vision will help shape the future of festival architecture.
