Buildner is proud to announce the winners of the Peja Culture Pavilion Competition, an international challenge to reimagine a historic site in Peja, Kosovo. Participants were tasked with integrating a 15th-century water fountain into a multifunctional pavilion, blending historical preservation with contemporary design to create a vibrant cultural hub.

After a rigorous evaluation by an esteemed jury of architects, urban planners, and cultural experts, the first prize and student award were awarded to Alexandra Ilinca Domnescu, Daria-Alexandra Pirvu, and Mario Eduard Peiciu from Romania for their project Trace. This design integrates an oval amphitheater and a cultural pavilion, transforming the former fountain site into a dynamic gathering space. A mirrored element enhances visual continuity, while tiered seating optimizes acoustic performance for events. The jury praised the project’s ability to seamlessly connect historical and contemporary urban layers through adaptable, community-focused spaces.

The second prize and sustainability award were given to Jiongyuan Chen from China for a design that revitalizes the site through a multifunctional public space featuring an amphitheater, central pavilion, and landscaped park. The proposal’s innovative use of a rainwater harvesting and purification system reinforces ecological sustainability while fostering cultural and social interaction. The third prize went to Shpend Pashtriku, Sarah-Alexandra Agill, and Kaltrina Pashtriku from the United Kingdom for their project Loom, which blends a multi-purpose pavilion, amphitheater, and tiered landscape into Peja’s urban fabric. Utilizing locally sourced timber and passive cooling strategies, the design enhances the public space while maintaining historical continuity.

Buildner and the jury extend their gratitude to all participants for their inspiring contributions. These visionary designs will help shape Peja’s cultural future. Visit our website to explore the Honorable Mention winners and Shortlisted projects.
