Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia – October 2025 – Buildner and the Mujassam Watan Initiative proudly announce the winners of the 2025 Mujassam Watan Urban Sculpture Challenge, a global competition aligned with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 cultural transformation. This year’s theme, “The Inspiration Around You,” drew 366 submissions from 60 countries, reflecting both strong local engagement and wide international participation.
At the Abu Hadriyah Road site, first prize was awarded to American designer Felix Bartolome Blanch for Hoist, a striking sequence of corten steel frames inspired by oil pump jacks that symbolize both heritage and progress. Second prize went to Polish architect Mirosław Zbigniew Nizio for The Gateway of Civilization and Progress, a monumental pair of rammed earth structures representing natural resources as foundations of growth.
On the Tharwa Sea Front in Al-Khobar, the top honor went to Timothy M. Williams, Yahia Atef Saleh Mohamed, and Landon J. Healy from the United States for Coalesce, a pavilion inspired by traditional palm weaving that creates a shaded communal space of unity and reflection. Second prize was awarded to Jordanian designers Ala Munther Tawfiq Ammari and Afaf Zayed Hamed Al Odetalla for Chromatic Echoes Pavilion, a colorful light-responsive structure inspired by Al-Sadu weaving. Two third prizes were also recognized: Many Pearls by French architect Matthieu Boustany and The Light of History by Polish designers *Magdalena Anna Marasik and Bartosz Paweł Haduch.
These winning works embody a new vision for Saudi Arabia’s public spaces—monuments that are not only visually iconic but also invite public interaction and community engagement. As they move closer to realization, they mark an important step in Al-Khobar’s transformation into a cultural and artistic landmark within the Kingdom’s Eastern Province.
