Buildner is excited to announce the results of the international "Iceland Ski Snow Cabin" design competition. This challenge invited architects and designers to create cozy, eco-friendly ski cabins that enhance Iceland's landscape. The competition sought sustainable designs serving as a skier's sanctuary, complete with gear storage and a warm gathering space. Judged on innovation, aesthetic appeal, and environmental sensitivity, the winning designs celebrate the intersection of nature and architecture. Buildner's international jury included Francisco Garcia de Freitas (Atelier RUA), Anne Cecilie Haug (Snøhetta), Borghildur Indriðadóttir (Teiknistofan Óðinstorgi), Hildur Ísdal (Plusark), Euan Millar (Icosis Architects), Tom Schroeder (Patkau Architects), and Sigrún Sumarliðadóttir (Studio Bua). Buildner congratulates the winners and thanks all participants.

The 1st prize went to Lucas Nieswandt from Germany for "Cold Cover," a year-round refuge with a flexible facade adapting to weather conditions. Its brightly colored roof enhances visibility during snowstorms, and the interior features warm wood tones, cozy furniture, and a central fireplace. Sustainable features include a rainwater collection system and solar panels.

The 2nd prize was awarded to Artemis Samartzi, Marco Conte, Gianmarco Bambini, and Brit Cuypers from Finland. Their compact design references Icelandic geology and includes a well-thought-out energy concept with an outdoor viewing platform.

The 3rd prize went to Karen Wang Varholick and Joseph Varholick from the United States for "Optical Earthform," blending seamlessly with Iceland's landscape. The design features a tectonic cleave, mirrored surfaces, and uses prefabricated steel culverts and earth-berming for structural efficiency and insulation.
