The House of the Future competition, a collaborative initiative with the Dubai Government, has successfully concluded, drawing participants from 127 countries who presented concepts for an affordable, expandable, and innovative single-family prototype home tailored to modern Emirati needs.

In partnership with the Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation, the Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment, Zaha Hadid Architects, and Calatrava International, the competition offered a substantial €250,000 (1 million AED) prize fund. Winning submissions are now under consideration for inclusion in the national registry of housing options for Emirati citizens.

A distinguished international jury, featuring prominent figures in the architecture and design community, meticulously evaluated entries for sustainability, practicality, and affordability. The winning designs represent a harmonious blend of aesthetic appeal and functionality, addressing the specific needs of Emirati families.

The House of the Future competition winners include 1st Prize - "Al Dara - Harnessing Heritage for a Sustainable Future" (Lebanon), with project authors Mohamed Al Mufti, Souaid Georges, Natalie Elmir, integrating heritage elements with contemporary design, emphasizing sustainability and cultural relevance. 2nd Prize - "Block Yard" (Spain) by authors Andrea Baldo, Angelo Emilio Brollo, Gino Leonardo Brollo, envisioning a flexible and comfortable residence blending vernacular architecture with sustainability. 3rd Prize - "Dune House" (United Kingdom), won by Thomas William Ewing, drawing inspiration from Dubai's landscape and integrating traditional and sustainable elements using locally sourced materials; and the Self-sustained House Award, which was awarded to a team from Slovakia for their innovative proposal.
