United States
Jason deCaires Taylor of Underwater Sculpture is an internationally renowned sculptor, environmentalist, and underwater photographer known for pioneering underwater museums and sculpture parks. A graduate of the London Institute of Arts with a BA (Hons) in Sculpture, he was the first artist to extend the Land Art movement into the marine environment. Taylor gained global recognition in 2006 with the world’s first large-scale underwater sculpture park in Moilinere Bay, Grenada — now listed by National Geographic as one of the Top 25 Wonders of the World and designated a national Marine Protected Area. Over the past two decades, he has created more than 1,200 permanent site-specific sculptures across the world, visited by thousands each week. His works, constructed from pH-neutral, environmentally sensitive materials, are designed to foster marine life and explore themes of conservation, ecological transformation, and environmental activism. Taylor’s projects are widely regarded as powerful models of marine regeneration and artistic innovation. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Sculptors, he has been recognized by Fast Company, Global Leaders Today, and Foreign Policy — which awarded him the Global Thinker Award and described him as “the Jacques Cousteau of the art world.” He is also an Ocean Ambassador to DAN and an Ocean Exemplar of The World Ocean Observatory.
