Buildner is excited to announce the results of The Legendary Highway 14 Tower competition, held in partnership with the city of De Smet, North Dakota, USA! The competition aimed to design an observation tower and landscape features that seamlessly integrate with the natural and historical context of the area, offering visitors an ideal vantage point to appreciate the region's historic natural wonders. Participants were challenged to create iconic designs that boost tourism while adhering to budget recommendations and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance.
The 1st prize was awarded to Jordan Paul Scheuermann from the United States for his inspiring design. Drawing inspiration from the undulating hills of the Great Plains and the legacy of Laura Ingalls Wilder, Scheuermann's design echoed the resilience and simplicity of early settlers, offering visitors a tangible connection to the region's historical tapestry.
The 2nd prize went to Roxana-Andreea Irimia and Mihai Bogdan Ionita from Romania for their focus on rediscovering ancestral sites through a caravan journey, integrating local motifs into the landscape to connect with the area's history.
Nicholas Devin Ryan from the United States secured the 3rd prize with a multi-phase project aiming to provide meaningful connections to historic and natural sites through walking and biking opportunities. Natthaphat Chotananwut from Thailand received the Student Award for a design standing as both an observation platform and a monument to abandoned cities along Highway USI4. The Sustainability Award was bestowed upon Nicolas Piazza and Nicola Romagnoli from Italy for their project aimed at transforming observation towers into dynamic interfaces fostering novel ecosystems.
