Buildner, together with the City and County of Denver and AIA Colorado, announces the winners of the Denver Affordable Housing Challenge—an international competition seeking innovative, scalable solutions to the city’s housing crisis.
First Prize goes to Damian John Madigan (Australia) for X-MU-X, a design-led zoning framework that introduces incremental density within historic single-family neighborhoods while preserving their character. Second Prize and the Sustainability Award are awarded to Meghan Helena Kress, Margaret Rose Krantz, and Sean Edward Pike (USA) for reFRAME, a six-unit courtyard housing model that balances gentle density, shared outdoor space, and sustainable CLT construction. Third Prize is awarded to Ozi Friedrich, Alexander Phillip St. Angelo, and Archer Lee Squire (USA) for Alley Town La Alma, a modular rowhouse strategy that transforms Denver’s alley network into a platform for incremental, community-focused infill.
The competition highlights global design excellence and Denver’s commitment to more affordable, resilient, and inclusive housing. Visit our website to see the Student Award winners, Honorable Mentions, and Shortlisted projects.
