Twisting Steel and Glass Structure Featuring Prefabricated Modular Units and Solar Integration

Project in-detail

With a twisting form constructed from prefabricated steel and glass, this modular skyscraper incorporates advanced cable robotics and sustainable energy solutions to provide flexible living and working spaces in an urban environment.
5 key facts about this project
01
Modular units allow for easy reconfiguration to accommodate changing demographic needs.
02
Integrated solar panels and water recycling systems enhance sustainability throughout the building.
03
Cable robotics are employed for precise placement of prefabricated elements during construction.
04
The twisting form reduces wind load and improves natural ventilation within the structure.
05
A focus on circular economy principles drives the use of recycled materials in the design.
The DNA Blockchain Skyscraper is an innovative architectural project situated in Dubai. It embodies a synthesis of modern technology, sustainable design, and urban planning with an emphasis on modular construction techniques. The structure is designed to provide adaptable living and working spaces, scaling with the needs of its users while integrating advanced construction methods.

The project serves multiple functions, including residential, commercial, and communal spaces, all achieved through a modular framework. This flexible design allows units to be added or reconfigured in response to evolving demographic demands. The architectural form reflects a twisting profile that draws inspiration from the double helix structure of DNA, symbolizing innovation, connection, and growth within urban environments.

Modular Integration and Robotics
A key feature of the DNA Blockchain Skyscraper is its modular construction system, which comprises 680 prefabricated units. This modular approach enhances efficiency in both design and construction processes. Each unit is crafted to serve specific functions, allowing for a high degree of customization based on occupant needs. The incorporation of cable robotics for assembly represents a unique advancement in construction methodologies, enabling precise placement of modules, minimizing labor dependencies, and streamlining on-site workflows.

Sustainability Practices and Technological Advancement
The project prioritizes sustainability through the use of environmentally friendly materials and energy-efficient systems. Primary materials include steel for structural integrity, high-performance glass for thermal regulation, and composite wood panels for aesthetics and functionality. Emphasis is placed on renewable resources, with systems in place for water recycling and energy generation via solar panels. The design incorporates natural ventilation strategies to optimize climate control in Dubai's hot environment, further reducing reliance on energy-consuming cooling systems.

The DNA Blockchain Skyscraper stands out through its commitment to a circular economy. By utilizing recycled materials and emphasizing waste reduction, the project aligns with contemporary sustainability goals while also promoting biodiversity within the urban landscape through integrated green spaces.

To gain a deeper understanding of the architectural plans, sections, and designs that outline this project’s innovative features, readers are encouraged to explore the project presentation for a comprehensive overview of its architectural ideas and details. The DNA Blockchain Skyscraper not only represents an advancement in architectural design but also serves as a model for future urban developments that seek to balance technological progress with ecological responsibility.

Design a new small-scale home concept in the 10th edition of MICROHOME — 100,000 € prize + construction

Competition organisers

The 10th edition of the MICROHOME architecture competition invites architects and designers from around the world to explore the possibilities of compact, sustainable living. Hosted by Buildner in collaboration with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this special edition challenges participants to design an off-grid, modular microhome for a young professional couple, with a maximum floor area of 25 m². Designs should prioritize innovation, efficiency, and real-world feasibility.

A total prize fund of 100,000 € will be awarded, including three main prizes, the Kingspan Award, and the Hapi Homes Award, which will grant 15,000 € and lead to the construction of the selected design. The final registration deadline is September 25, 2025, and winners will be announced on Decebmer 9, 2025. For full competition details and submission guidelines, visit microhome.info.
