The Turf Guest House Resort is an architectural project that integrates modern design with the natural landscape, creating an inviting retreat for guests seeking relaxation and connection to their environment. Situated in a region characterized by geothermal activity, potentially similar to northern climates, the resort features a series of guest houses that emphasize sustainability and harmony with the setting. The architectural design reflects historical vernacular techniques while using contemporary materials, resulting in functional spaces that provide comfort and scenic views.

Sustainable Material Usage

A key aspect of the Turf Guest House Resort is its commitment to sustainability through material choices. The roofs of the guest houses are constructed using turf, a traditional material that aids in insulation and blends seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. This method not only enhances the building's thermal performance but also minimizes its visual impact on the environment. The use of large glass panels throughout the façades promotes natural lighting and connects indoor spaces to the outside, offering unobstructed views of the surroundings. Local stone is employed in the foundations and outdoor amenities, ensuring durability while paying homage to the local geology.

Innovative Spatial Organization

The design incorporates eight guest houses, each structured to provide privacy while promoting a sense of community. Each unit maintains a compact footprint while still accommodating essential amenities and living spaces. The central common area serves as the heart of the resort, accommodating the reception, lounge, restaurant, and wellness facilities. The layout facilitates interaction among guests while ensuring that individual spaces feel secluded. The wellness center leverages the natural geothermal springs nearby, providing a unique spa experience that further integrates the architectural design with the site’s inherent features.

The Turf Guest House Resort exemplifies how architecture can respectfully engage with its environment while fulfilling guests' functional needs. This project serves as a prime example of cohesive design that balances modern aesthetics with traditional construction methods, fostering an immersive experience that resonates with nature.
